Prominent activist and member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Aisha Yesufu, has disclosed that she personally appealed to former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to become the running mate of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi four years ago.
Yesufu made the revelation on Wednesday in a post on X, where she reiterated her support for an Obi-Kwankwaso political alliance and suggested that discussions around the proposed ticket had been years in the making.
According to the activist, she actively pushed for a partnership between the two politicians long before current political realignments reignited conversations about opposition cooperation ahead of the 2027 general election.
“Some things in life take longer than they should. Like the saying goes, better late than never,” she wrote.

“Four years ago I literally begged @KwankwasoRM to be Peter Obi’s running mate. Now that it is happening, you think I am going to be distracted? No way. Let’s get it done.”
Her comments have fueled fresh speculation about the possibility of a political alliance involving Obi and Kwankwaso, two influential opposition figures who command significant support bases across different regions of the country.
While neither Obi nor Kwankwaso has publicly confirmed any joint ticket arrangement for the 2027 presidential election, political observers have continued to discuss the prospect of greater opposition unity as parties position themselves for the next electoral cycle.
Yesufu, a vocal supporter of Obi during the 2023 presidential election, has consistently advocated collaboration among opposition leaders as a strategy for challenging the ruling party in future contests.
Her latest remarks suggest that she views an Obi-Kwankwaso partnership as a potentially formidable political force capable of attracting support from a broad spectrum of voters.
The activist, however, did not provide details on the circumstances surrounding her earlier appeal to Kwankwaso or whether formal discussions took place at the time.
The post quickly generated reactions on social media, with supporters and critics weighing in on the implications of a possible alliance between the former Anambra State governor and the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement.
Political analysts note that any coalition involving Obi and Kwankwaso would likely reshape calculations within the opposition landscape, given the electoral influence both politicians demonstrated during the 2023 elections.
As political consultations ahead of 2027 continue to gather momentum, Yesufu’s revelation has added a new dimension to ongoing conversations about opposition strategies and the possibility of a united front against the ruling party.
For now, attention remains focused on whether discussions surrounding an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket will translate into a formal political arrangement in the months ahead.
