Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has opened up about the painful past that drove her into the movie industry. The famous actress shared that her journey into acting was never about chasing fame, wealth, or stardom.
Instead, it was a desperate, calculated attempt to ensure her children could find their way back to her after they were forcefully taken away.
Speaking during a recent interview, the actress recounted the heartbreaking moment she lost access to her children when they were at a very young age. According to Wright, the separation happened because she married into a highly influential and wealthy family. Rather than finding support, she faced severe disdain from her in-laws, who looked down on her background and doubted her potential.
The wealthy family seized her children, believing that she would never amount to anything meaningful in life. Left with limited options to fight back against a powerful family at the time, Wright had to think outside the box to secure a future connection with her kids.

“My children were taken from me when they were very young because I married into a very wealthy family, and they could not think I would become anything in this life,” Wright stated during the emotional interview.
Faced with the devastating reality of being separated from her young children, Bukky Wright decided to step into the world of acting. Her goal was entirely different from her peers. She did not dream of red carpets or movie awards; she simply wanted to become visible enough so that her children would eventually recognize her face when they grew up.
She viewed the television screen as a beacon of hope—a way to broadcast her existence to her children, no matter where they were hidden.
“I actually started acting so that when my children grow up, they would be able to, at least, I never thought of being a star, at least know where to find me,” she explained.
Decades later, Bukky Wright has not only built a legendary career but has also proven her doubters completely wrong. She rose through the ranks to become one of the most respected and recognizable faces in Nigerian cinema.
