Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, has urged the South-East to embrace strategic political alliances and increase its participation in national politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Nkwocha made the call on Saturday during a sensitisation meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imerienwe Ward 5, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, where community leaders and political stakeholders pledged to strengthen their support for the ruling party.
He said the region needed to reassess its political strategy by considering its electoral strength, national political realities and opportunities for development through engagement with the Federal Government.
The presidential aide maintained that President Bola Tinubu’s administration had demonstrated commitment to the South-East through infrastructure projects, institutional reforms and economic investments, despite the region’s voting pattern during the 2023 presidential election.

He cited the establishment of the South-East Development Commission, reconstruction of federal highways and improvements in transport infrastructure as examples of the administration’s commitment to inclusive development.
Nkwocha also argued that the region’s comparatively smaller registered voter population made political partnerships with other geopolitical zones important to its long-term leadership ambitions.
He questioned the implications of a possible political arrangement involving former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, particularly reports of a proposed one-term presidency agreement.
According to him, the South-East must carefully consider whether such an arrangement would advance its long-term political interests.
Urging residents to support the Tinubu administration, Nkwocha emphasised the importance of grassroots participation and political organisation.
“My boss, Vice President Kashim Shettima, is on the ballot. Please support the Vice President,” he said.
Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations) to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Enyinnaya Onuegbu, described Imerienwe as a community with a longstanding reputation for political organisation and grassroots mobilisation.
He commended Uzodimma’s infrastructure projects, particularly improvements at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, which he said had enabled night flight operations.
Onuegbu expressed confidence that Imerienwe would support APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
Similarly, Chief Sylvester Okenze Obinna, chairman of Ndi Nze Ngor-Okpala and Okenze Ngor-Okpala Ggburukhulu, urged residents to unite behind Tinubu and Shettima, citing Nkwocha’s contributions to the community.
Retired Air Vice Marshal Remigius Ekeh also stressed the importance of combining grassroots mobilisation with strategic political planning.
Earlier, Umunakara Community Village Chairman Ifeanyi Nwaiwu said political leaders and supporters across seven villages had resolved to unite under the APC.
The ward chairman also presented requests for the grading of community roads and the installation of 50 additional solar-powered streetlights to improve security, accessibility and economic activities.
The meeting attracted community leaders, women and youth representatives, APC officials and other political stakeholders, with discussions centred on political participation, infrastructure and community development ahead of the 2027 elections.
