The Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, has launched the C.L.I.C.K.D. Scheme, a new consumer credit programme designed to provide affordable financing for laptops and other digital devices to Nigerians participating in the digital economy.

The initiative, unveiled on Monday at the Afreximbank African Trade Centre (AATC) in Abuja, is being implemented in collaboration with Fidelity Bank, the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and Imose Technologies. It is also integrated with the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme to improve access to digital tools for trainees and technology professionals.

Under the first phase of the programme, 1,000 locally assembled laptops will be distributed to eligible 3MTT fellows across the country through structured and affordable consumer credit. Seventy-seven beneficiaries in Abuja received the first batch of devices during the launch ceremony.

The C.L.I.C.K.D. initiative—an acronym for Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices—is aimed at removing the high upfront cost of acquiring digital equipment, which government officials say has prevented many skilled Nigerians from participating fully in the country’s expanding digital economy.

Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, who chaired the event, said Nigeria’s digital transformation depends on equipping citizens with both technical skills and the tools required to succeed.

“Nigeria’s digital economy can only thrive when our people have both the skills and the tools to succeed,” Tijani said. “Through C.L.I.C.K.D., we are helping qualifying Nigerians participate more fully in the opportunities created by the 3MTT initiative while strengthening local manufacturing through the use of locally assembled devices.”

The programme begins with laptops assembled in Nigeria but is expected to expand to cover other internet-enabled devices, connectivity solutions and digital tools required by workers in the technology ecosystem. CREDICORP said local assembly would remain a priority as the initiative grows, supporting the Federal Government’s industrialisation agenda and domestic technology manufacturing.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Engr. Uzoma Nwagba, described the initiative as a strategic intervention that combines access to credit with skills development and job creation.

According to him, embedding affordable consumer credit into the 3MTT Programme will enable qualified Nigerians to acquire essential devices needed for learning, remote work, entrepreneurship and employment while supporting local manufacturers.

He added that the programme demonstrates how responsible consumer lending can drive digital inclusion, stimulate local production and expand economic opportunities for young Nigerians.

CREDICORP said the C.L.I.C.K.D. Scheme is designed as an open, multi-partner platform and invited additional financial institutions, device manufacturers and technology vendors to participate in future phases.

The corporation also disclosed that it would continue working with the Central Bank of Nigeria, training institutions and strategic partners to scale device financing beyond the 3MTT Programme, with the long-term goal of making digital devices accessible to millions of Nigerians.

Interested applicants can register for the programme through CREDICORP’s online portal as the nationwide rollout progresses.
