Former Nigeria national team captain, John Obi Mikel, has strongly criticized Manchester United’s recent performances, describing their style of play as awful to watch following another Premier League defeat.

Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, the former Chelsea midfielder stated that supporters are justified in their frustration over the team’s lack of cohesion and recent poor form. His comments follow Manchester United’s 3-0 home defeat against Bournemouth at Old Trafford, extending their winless streak to eight matches across all competitions.

“They were dreadful to watch, awful to watch. It was a disaster,” Mikel said during the podcast episode.

The defeat leaves Manchester United just one point above the Premier League relegation zone, having secured only two victories in twelve competitive matches this season. Head coach Michael Carrick, who secured the permanent position after guiding the team to Champions League qualification last season, faces mounting pressure from the club’s INEOS leadership group.

Mikel argued that the club requires a more experienced manager to rebuild performance standards, pointing to Aston Villa manager Unai Emery as an example of the tactical leadership required. Manchester United are scheduled to travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday to face fifth-placed Chelsea, with Carrick expected to remain in charge for the fixture.
