A 40-year-old woman, Patience Omonete, and her three children have been rescued after they were abducted from Onomi Farm in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The victims, whose children are aged 14, 12 and 10, were reportedly kidnapped on September 3, 2026, while at the farm.

The Edo State Police Command confirmed the development, saying a coordinated operation involving security agencies and local hunters led to their safe rescue.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed the development in a statement, explaining that the victims were taken into the forest after the abduction.

According to Ikoedem, the Divisional Police Officer of Okpella immediately mobilised personnel following the incident and coordinated a joint search operation to locate the victims.

The operation involved police operatives, members of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) and local hunters.

The security team reportedly moved into the forest around Onomi-Iddo, Okpella, in search of the abducted woman and her children.

Their efforts eventually resulted in the rescue of all four victims.

The police spokesperson did not provide details on whether any suspects had been arrested or whether ransom was demanded or paid for the victims’ release.

The successful rescue comes amid continued security concerns in parts of Edo State, particularly around rural communities and farming areas where residents can be vulnerable to criminal attacks and abductions.

The police command’s decision to deploy a combination of conventional security personnel, the state security corps and local hunters highlights the importance of coordinated operations in difficult forest terrains.

The rescued woman and her children are expected to receive necessary assistance and support following their ordeal.

The police have continued to urge residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.

The command also encouraged members of rural communities to cooperate with security personnel by providing credible information that could assist in preventing criminal activities and securing vulnerable areas.

The rescue of Omonete and her children brings an end to the family’s ordeal, with authorities expected to continue efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the abduction and identify those responsible.
