The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, has selected Chief Michael Emmanuel Ombugadu as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.

The announcement followed consultations among party stakeholders and aspirants for the deputy governorship position.

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule announced Ombugadu’s emergence after an APC stakeholders’ meeting at the Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

Wadada subsequently described the selection as an effort to strengthen the party’s ticket ahead of the election.

In a statement, the governorship candidate said Ombugadu brings more than three decades of experience spanning administration, public finance, community service, academia and the private sector.

Ombugadu began his professional career at Ashaka Cement Plc before working at Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic, Lafia, and later joining the Nasarawa State Pension Bureau, where he rose to become Director of Finance and Accounts.

Wadada also described his running mate as a grassroots politician with experience in community engagement and public service.

He said the ticket would focus on unity, issue-based politics and development across Nasarawa State.

The candidate said the partnership was intended to reflect the diversity of the state and address the interests of residents across its local government and development areas.

The APC candidate pledged that the campaign would prioritise security, economic development, prosperity and social cohesion.

The selection of Ombugadu formally completes the APC governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 election and begins another phase of political mobilisation in the state.

Governor Sule said the decision followed consultations among aspirants, who, according to him, agreed to support whoever emerged as the party’s deputy governorship candidate.

The development comes as political parties continue preparations for the 2027 general elections, with candidates increasingly announcing running mates and beginning early campaign structures.

Wadada expressed confidence that Ombugadu’s experience would complement his own political platform as the party prepares to face other contenders in the Nasarawa governorship contest.

He said the campaign would seek to unite residents around what he described as a common vision for the state.
