Rotimi Amaechi

Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has rejected the outcome of the recent primary election conducted by the African Democratic Congress, citing irregularities and lack of transparency.

Amaechi, in a statement issued shortly after the exercise, alleged that the process was marred by procedural breaches and failed to meet democratic standards. He insisted that the results do not reflect the will of party members.

The former Rivers State governor called for the cancellation of the primary and demanded a fresh exercise conducted under stricter guidelines. He warned that failure to address the concerns could deepen divisions within the party.

Party officials, however, defended the process, describing it as credible and in line with internal regulations. They urged aggrieved aspirants to seek redress through established party mechanisms rather than public confrontation.

Political analysts note that the dispute could affect the party’s cohesion ahead of upcoming elections if not swiftly resolved.

Supporters of Amaechi have staged protests in some areas, calling for justice and transparency, while others within the party have appealed for calm.

The development adds to a growing list of internal party disputes across Nigeria’s political landscape.
