Addressing his followers, Ajasa expressed disappointment over the circulation of the fake obituary and condemned individuals and social media platforms responsible for spreading what he described as misleading information.
“Good day everyone, my name still remains Owolabi Ajasa, your Nollywood police officer. I want to tell all my fans both in Nigeria and abroad that I’m still much alive. I’m alive, hale and hearty. There’s nothing wrong with me,” he said in the video.
The actor also reacted strongly to those behind the false reports, saying, “To everyone posting my obituary around, I’m saying back to the sender to you and your family.”
Although he did not identify those responsible, Ajasa criticised the repeated publication of false reports about him and some of his colleagues in the entertainment industry.
The fake obituary had sparked confusion on several social media platforms, with many fans initially believing the reports before the actor’s public appearance and video statement dispelled the rumours.
Ajasa is widely recognised in the Yoruba movie industry for portraying police officers in numerous productions, earning him the nickname “Nollywood police officer” among movie lovers.
His latest statement has since reassured fans, many of whom flooded his social media page with messages of relief and support following the clarification.
The incident highlights the growing challenge of misinformation on social media, where fabricated reports involving celebrities frequently spread before they can be verified.
In recent years, several Nigerian entertainers have been forced to publicly deny false reports of their deaths after fake obituary posters and unverified claims circulated online.
Ajasa’s swift response helped calm public anxiety and underscored the importance of verifying information before sharing it on digital platforms.
With his reassurance, the veteran actor has put an end to the speculation, thanking his supporters for their concern while urging the public to ignore the false reports and rely on verified sources for information about his well-being.
