Ooni of Ife

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security outfit founded by Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to strengthen grassroots security across Yorubaland.

The donation was announced during a courtesy visit by Igboho and members of the security network to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by the monarch’s Senior Media Officer, Sodiq Lawal, on behalf of the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare, the support reflects the Ooni’s commitment to promoting community-driven security initiatives that complement the efforts of conventional security agencies.

The statement described the Iru Ekun Security Network as a timely intervention aimed at improving the protection of lives and property in Yoruba communities amid growing security concerns.

Speaking during the visit, the Ooni commended Igboho for what he described as his courage, resilience and dedication to the security and welfare of the Yoruba people.

He said meaningful leadership is demonstrated through selfless service and practical efforts to improve society, adding that security remains the foundation for sustainable development.

“I commend Chief Sunday Igboho for taking a bold step towards strengthening community security. Protecting our people is a collective responsibility that transcends political, religious and ideological differences. Every initiative genuinely designed to preserve lives and maintain peace deserves encouragement and support,” the monarch said.

The royal father urged traditional rulers, community leaders, professionals, business executives, traditionalists and other Yoruba sons and daughters, both at home and abroad, to support the security outfit in its efforts to safeguard communities.

Emphasising the importance of unity, the Ooni said lasting peace and development in Yorubaland would only be achieved through collective action and shared responsibility.

“Our strength lies in our unity. When we speak with one voice and work together, no force can undermine the peace and progress of Yorubaland,” he added.

Responding, Sunday Igboho expressed appreciation to the monarch for the financial support and vehicle donation, describing the Ooni as a symbol of unity and an inspiration to Yoruba people across the world.

He said the visit was intended not only to receive royal blessings but also to brief the traditional ruler on the activities of the Iru Ekun Security Network and seek his continued guidance and endorsement.

Igboho disclosed plans to convene a security summit involving traditional rulers from across Yorubaland to discuss practical solutions to the region’s security challenges.

According to him, the proposed summit, subject to the Ooni’s approval, is expected to hold at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, regarded as the ancestral and spiritual home of the Yoruba people.

He also reaffirmed that the Iru Ekun Security Network would continue to operate within the law while working with security agencies and local communities to promote intelligence gathering, community policing and lasting peace across the South-West.
