Vice President Kashim Shettima has said President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructure investments are positioning Nigeria’s geopolitical regions as major economic centres through improved transportation networks, stronger regional trade and increased business opportunities.

Shettima said strategic road construction projects being undertaken by the Federal Government would connect agricultural and industrial production centres with markets, reduce transportation costs and stimulate economic activities across the country.

The Vice President made the remarks on Wednesday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State, where he highlighted the administration’s infrastructure development agenda.

He identified the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Superhighway as one of the major projects expected to strengthen economic integration between the North-Central and North-East regions.

According to him, the highway would improve the movement of agricultural produce, facilitate commercial activities and provide businesses with easier access to markets across different parts of the country.

Shettima explained that infrastructure development remained central to the administration’s economic transformation strategy, noting that improved connectivity would help unlock opportunities for farmers, manufacturers, traders and investors.

He also mentioned the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway as significant projects designed to improve transportation links and strengthen economic activities across Nigeria.

The Vice President said the projects reflected the Federal Government’s determination to address longstanding infrastructure challenges and establish a more integrated national economy.

He maintained that connecting communities and commercial centres would encourage investment, support industrial growth and create employment opportunities for Nigerians.

Shettima argued that improved road infrastructure would also help reduce the cost of transporting goods, a challenge that has continued to affect businesses and consumers across the country.

The administration has repeatedly identified infrastructure development as a major component of its economic reform programme, with transportation networks expected to support trade, agriculture and industrial expansion.

However, the economic benefits of the projects will depend on their timely completion, maintenance and effective integration with other transportation systems.

Shettima also called on Nigerians to support Tinubu’s anticipated second-term bid, expressing confidence that ongoing infrastructure investments would contribute to broader economic development.

The Federal Government is expected to continue pursuing major road and transportation projects as part of efforts to improve connectivity and strengthen economic activities across the country’s regions.
