Nigeria’s under-17 national women’s football team, the Flamingos, will face Venezuela on Sunday in the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

The fixture is scheduled for Pitch 4 at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé, Rabat, with kickoff set for 7:00 PM Nigerian time.

Coached by Hakeem Busari, the Flamingos reached the quarter-finals after overcoming a 2-1 defeat to Poland in their Group B opener. The team rebounded with a 2-0 victory over Puerto Rico and a 3-1 win against defending champions North Korea before defeating Mexico in the Round of 16.

Venezuela, returning to the tournament after a ten-year absence, secured their quarter-final place by defeating Germany 1-0 in the Round of 16 following group stage performances against France and Zambia.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference in Rabat, Busari cautioned his players against complacency, emphasizing the physical play characteristic of South American teams.

“We will approach it the same way we approach other teams, because all of us in the quarter-final are good to have reached this stage,” Busari said.

“We have to put our mentality right and fight for all balls, both first and second balls. Take the game calmly, concentrate, take your chances, and keep possession high.”

The winner of the quarter-final clash will advance to the semi-finals of the global tournament.
