Nigeria has reaffirmed its readiness to expand strategic cooperation with the Republic of Poland across key sectors, including digital economy, defence, agriculture, and maritime development.

Vice President Kashim Shettima made the commitment on Thursday during a courtesy visit by Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs, Dr Krzysztof Gawkowski, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Shettima said Nigeria, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has implemented far-reaching economic reforms that have strengthened investor confidence and opened the economy to greater international partnership.

According to him, measures such as the liberalisation of the foreign exchange market, removal of fuel subsidy, and harmonisation of tax policies have improved the business environment and created room for sustainable foreign collaboration.

He stressed that Nigeria is no longer focused on aid-based relationships but on mutually beneficial partnerships that drive industrial growth, technology transfer, and job creation.

The Vice President noted that Poland has demonstrated strong comparative advantage in sectors such as shipbuilding, maritime economy, defence production, and digital innovation, adding that there is significant opportunity for deeper bilateral engagement.

“There is room for enhanced mutually beneficial business relations between Nigeria and Poland. We believe in partnership that delivers value to both sides,” Shettima said.

He also described Poland as a progressive European nation with a strong development trajectory, expressing optimism that both countries would strengthen cooperation in innovation and digital transformation.

In his remarks, Dr Gawkowski said Nigeria remains Poland’s most important partner in Africa, citing its large population, growing technological capacity, and economic potential.

He said the visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation in digital development, innovation, and long-term economic collaboration between both countries.

The Polish Deputy Prime Minister expressed confidence that the engagement would open a new phase of strategic partnership, particularly in technology-driven sectors.

Both countries are expected to deepen discussions on areas of mutual interest in the coming months as part of efforts to expand bilateral relations.
