Restoration work on one of the prized antiques at the Jaekel House Railway Museum, the historic rail car is currently progressing steadily, following a collaborative effort between the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) Engineering Department and Legacy 1995.

The rail car, prominently displayed within the museum premises and painted in green with yellow accents and the Nigerian Railway Corporation logo, is regarded as a key heritage asset reflecting the evolution of rail transport in Nigeria.

Originally developed as a modern replacement for the older pump trolley, the rail car represents a significant technological shift in railway operations. It is designed to run on railway tracks and is typically used for passenger movement, freight operations, and most importantly, track inspection and rehabilitation, especially in areas affected by natural or human-induced challenges.

According to project updates, the rehabilitation exercise has recorded notable progress within two days of active work. The initiative was driven by Legacy 1995, with technical support provided by engineers from the Nigerian Railway Corporation.

Stakeholders expressed optimism that further restoration of other historical assets at the museum, including the pump trolley and bicycle rail—once they receive full servicing and repainting—will further enhance the visual appeal of the site and strengthen railway heritage preservation efforts.

The management of Legacy National Committee noted that ongoing rehabilitation and restoration activities at Jaekel House will continue alongside broader efforts to promote Nigeria’s railway history and preserve its antiquities for future generations.

The project team reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining collaboration between Legacy 1995 and the Nigerian Railway Corporation in safeguarding railway heritage materials housed at the mini-museum.
