The Federal Government has confirmed that the Kano–Jigawa–Katsina to Maradi railway project is 60 percent completed, with delivery scheduled for December 2027.
Resident Engineer, Engr. Ali Bukar of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, disclosed this on Saturday during an inspection visit by the Presidential Media Team led by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, to project sites in Jigawa State.
Bukar said construction is progressing steadily across the project’s two major corridors, noting that work has intensified particularly along the Kano to Dutse axis. He explained that current efforts are focused on bridge construction across waterways and difficult terrains, with piling, substructure development, and superstructure installations at advanced stages in several locations.
According to him, key milestones have already been recorded along the Kano to Jigawa section, which spans about 104 kilometres. He added that track laying, earthworks, and structural components are ongoing on both the main line and the branch linking Kano to Dutse.

The engineer further stated that the rail project is fully funded under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure scheme of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, assuring that timelines remain on track for completion.
The inspection formed part of a broader tour of federal and state government projects across the Northwest, organised by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors under the leadership of Hope Uzodimma.
During the visit, the delegation also assessed major infrastructure projects executed by the Kano and Jigawa State governments. These included the Tal-Udu interchange flyover in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano and an ongoing concrete waterline project from Kapin Chiri Dam in Garko Local Government Area aimed at supporting irrigation farming.
In Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, the team inspected the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Skills Acquisition Centre and reviewed tractors procured by the state government to boost agricultural productivity.
The Federal Government said the railway project, when completed, will enhance regional connectivity, facilitate trade, and strengthen economic integration between Nigeria and neighbouring Niger Republic.
