Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has praised Mykhailo Mudryk’s commitment following the club’s pre-season defeat to Juventus, while insisting the Ukrainian winger still has significant room for improvement ahead of the new campaign.

Speaking after the friendly encounter, Alonso acknowledged the winger’s work rate and willingness to follow tactical instructions but stressed that consistency and better decision-making would be crucial as Chelsea prepare for the start of the competitive season.

The Chelsea boss said pre-season matches are designed to assess players’ readiness, experiment with tactical systems and identify areas requiring improvement before domestic and European competitions begin.

Mudryk remained one of the most closely watched players during the match as supporters looked for signs that he could deliver on the potential that prompted his high-profile move to Stamford Bridge.

Alonso noted that the winger possesses exceptional pace, technical ability and creativity but believes translating those qualities into consistent performances will determine his impact this season.

They added that Mudryk’s ability to improve his finishing, decision-making in the final third and defensive contributions would be essential to earning a regular starting role.

Despite the defeat, Alonso remained upbeat about Chelsea’s overall preparations, describing the match as another valuable opportunity to build match fitness and strengthen team cohesion.
