Former Zamfara State Governor and Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Abdulaziz Yari, has said the APC is targeting at least 2.3 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Yari made the declaration on Saturday during the Rainbow Coalition Presidential Campaign Rally at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, where he commended Rivers political leaders and supporters for mobilising behind Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He expressed confidence in the political alliance emerging in the state, saying the coalition’s mobilisation efforts could make Rivers a major contributor to the President’s electoral support in 2027.

According to Yari, Rivers State has approximately 3.3 million registered voters, with about 2.8 million Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected, figures he said provided an opportunity for the APC to pursue an ambitious electoral target.

He said he initially proposed targeting three million votes but was advised that the figure was too ambitious.

Recalling previous elections in which Rivers reportedly recorded about two million votes, Yari maintained that the state could still deliver a substantial number of votes despite changes in electoral technology and voting procedures.

“The message here from the grassroots is that we are looking for nothing less than 2.3 million votes. Rivers people, are you going to support the Honourable Minister to deliver Tinubu at 2.3 million?” he asked supporters.

He also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, whom he identified as a major coordinator of Tinubu’s political mobilisation in Rivers State and the FCT.

Yari expressed satisfaction with the turnout and organisation of the rally, predicting that Rivers State could deliver between 75 and 80 per cent support for Tinubu in the forthcoming election.

He subsequently appealed to the President to replicate in Nigeria the revenue-generation foundation he established during his tenure as governor of Lagos State.

According to Yari, Tinubu inherited an internally generated revenue base of about N600 million in Lagos but introduced mechanisms that eventually helped increase the state’s revenue to more than N100 billion over the years.

He urged the President to apply similar strategies at the national level, expressing confidence that the economic foundation being laid by the administration would benefit future generations.

In his remarks, Vice President Kashim Shettima thanked Rivers residents for supporting the Tinubu administration, urging them to renew their political commitment ahead of the 2027 election.

Shettima said the President valued the confidence reposed in his administration by the people of Rivers State and appealed to them to sustain their support.

He described political loyalty as an important component of democratic partnerships, maintaining that the administration had worked hard to justify the trust Nigerians placed in it during the 2023 general election.

The Vice President also defended Tinubu’s economic policies, arguing that the President demonstrated political courage by taking difficult decisions to address structural weaknesses in the Nigerian economy.

He said the removal of the petrol subsidy and other economic adjustments were necessary to prevent further deterioration of the country’s finances.

Shettima criticised opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, over their criticisms of the administration.

He also defended Tinubu’s leadership record, insisting that the President remained committed to economic recovery and national development.

The rally brought together APC leaders, political stakeholders and members of the Rainbow Coalition, with the party using the gathering to intensify mobilisation for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
