Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralized a suspected terrorist and destroyed several camps during a coordinated operation in Zamfara State, as part of ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the region.

Military sources said the operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the activities of armed groups in remote areas of the state. The troops engaged the insurgents in a firefight, resulting in the death of one suspect while others fled.

The army also reported the destruction of makeshift camps used by the criminals, along with the recovery of weapons and other materials. The operation is part of a broader campaign to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace in the North-West.

Residents in affected communities have expressed relief over the military’s continued presence, noting a gradual improvement in security conditions. However, they called for sustained operations to prevent a resurgence of attacks.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging citizens to provide timely information to security agencies. It also emphasized the importance of collaboration between the military and local communities.

Security experts say while such operations are necessary, long-term solutions will require addressing underlying factors such as poverty, unemployment, and weak governance structures.

Zamfara State has been one of the hotspots of banditry and insurgent activities in recent years, prompting intensified military interventions.

Authorities say operations will continue until all criminal elements are eliminated and normalcy is fully restored.
