Nigeria international Semi Ajayi has praised Hull City’s response to their previous defeat after the team battled to a 1-1 draw against Brentford in the Premier League at the MKM Stadium on Sunday.
The defender said the result demonstrated Hull’s ability to recover from setbacks, although he admitted the players were disappointed not to secure all three points on home soil.
“It’s important that we had a good bounce back from last week, we did that,” Ajayi told Sky Sports after the match.
“We are definitely disappointed not to come away with the three points, but a point at home is always positive,” he added.
Hull entered the encounter seeking a response to their 1-0 defeat against Fulham in their previous outing. They made a promising start against Brentford and took the lead in the 24th minute through Oli McBurnie, who converted a penalty.
The hosts maintained their advantage until the interval but were unable to preserve it after Brentford increased the pressure in the second half.

Dango Ouattara restored parity in the 63rd minute, finishing a move created by Igor Thiago to secure a share of the points for the visitors.
Both sides subsequently sought a winning goal, but neither could find the breakthrough as the contest ended level.
Ajayi played a key role in Hull’s defensive performance, helping the team withstand Brentford’s attempts to take control of the match.
The Nigerian centre-back won five of the six tackles he attempted, made four clearances, recorded five recoveries and completed two interceptions, according to match statistics reported after the game.
His contribution earned him both the Premier League Player of the Match award and Hull City’s club Player of the Match recognition. He reportedly received 43.6 per cent of the club’s fan vote, finishing ahead of McBurnie, Tim Iroegbunam and Lewis Coyle.
The recognition marked an encouraging outing for the Nigeria international, whose defensive performance helped Hull secure a point against their Premier League opponents.
For Hull, the draw offered an opportunity to regain momentum after the setback against Fulham, although the inability to convert the performance into a victory remained a source of frustration.
The result also extended Hull’s unbeaten home record in the Premier League during the 2026/27 season, while Brentford maintained their unbeaten away record in the competition at that stage.
Hull will now look to build on the performance and turn competitive displays into victories as the league campaign continues.
Ajayi’s assessment reflected the team’s immediate objective: maintain the improved performance, address missed opportunities and approach their upcoming fixtures with renewed confidence.
