President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intensify investigations into the killing of prominent Islamic preacher, Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Masussuka, and his friend, Adamu Abubakar, in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State.

The President condemned the killings, which occurred in a drive-by shooting on Monday evening, describing the attack as heinous and an assault on the values of peace and the sanctity of human life.

Tinubu, in a statement, expressed sadness over the incident and urged security agencies to ensure that those responsible were tracked down, arrested and brought to justice.

He directed the police and other relevant agencies to strengthen the efforts already underway by the Katsina State Police Command to identify the perpetrators and establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.

“The President has directed the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to move swiftly, intensify efforts already underway by the Katsina State Police Command, and ensure the perpetrators are tracked down, apprehended, and brought to justice,” the statement said.

The President also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased, their followers, and the government and people of Katsina State over the loss.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and comfort for their families and others mourning their deaths.

The killing has renewed concerns over security in parts of Katsina State, where attacks by armed groups have posed challenges to residents and communities.

Dutsin-Ma and other areas of the state have faced security threats, prompting calls for sustained intelligence gathering, effective policing and stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities.

However, details surrounding the circumstances of Monday’s shooting, including the identities of the assailants and their possible motives, were not provided in the presidential statement.

The police investigation is expected to establish the sequence of events leading to the attack and identify those responsible.

The President’s directive places renewed emphasis on the need for a thorough investigation and the prosecution of anyone found culpable.
