President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised sustained economic recovery, improved living standards and expanded opportunities for Nigerians as he formally flagged off the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign in Kaduna State ahead of the 2027 general election.
The President, who is seeking re-election for another four-year term, said his second-term agenda would focus on consolidating ongoing economic reforms, accelerating national development and creating a more prosperous future for Nigerians, particularly young people.
Speaking on Saturday at the campaign flag-off, Tinubu assured supporters that his administration remained committed to delivering on its promises and building on what it described as the gains of its economic policies.
“We have prosperity, consistency, growth, recovery, and opportunity. I assure you,” the President said.
He added that his administration would work towards providing a better future for Nigerians, promising that the current reform programme would remain central to his development agenda.
“We promise you a better future, a better tomorrow,” he stated.
Tinubu expressed appreciation to the people of Kaduna State for their support during the 2023 presidential election, describing his return to the state as an opportunity to thank them for contributing to his emergence as President and seek their endorsement for another term.
“You gave me joy to remember the victory you gave me to become president. I come again to thank you for that again. To seek your mandate for the second term,” he said.
The President maintained that his re-election ambition was driven by a commitment to continuity, economic growth and national development, urging party supporters to remain united behind the APC as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.
Addressing concerns over the rising cost of living and economic hardship, Tinubu faulted opposition politicians for blaming his administration for poverty and hunger, arguing that the challenges predated his government.
“I hear my opponent talking about hunger, poverty. Who created it? They did. They created the hunger. They created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” he said.
The President defended his administration’s economic direction, insisting that its policies were aimed at addressing structural problems and laying the foundation for sustainable growth.
He also cited the performance of APC governors as evidence of the ruling party’s commitment to governance and development, praising them for implementing projects and meeting their obligations to workers.
“We pay salaries regularly. Our governors are working. I am proud of them. They are developing,” Tinubu said.
On the removal of the petrol subsidy, the President defended the decision as a necessary measure to end what he described as corruption, fraudulent invoicing and fuel smuggling associated with the previous subsidy regime.
“Fuel subsidy is in our past. No more corruption. No more falsification of invoices, no more lies, no more smuggling,” he declared.
Tinubu reiterated his administration’s determination to sustain the reforms, arguing that Nigeria needed consistent policies to improve its economic prospects and create more opportunities for citizens.
He also urged Nigerians to look beyond political accusations and focus on development priorities, insisting that the country’s future should be shaped by policies capable of improving livelihoods and strengthening the economy.
The Kaduna flag-off represents a significant step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 general election, with Tinubu seeking a fresh mandate to continue his administration’s reform agenda.
The President’s appeal to voters centred on continuity, economic recovery and the promise of a better future, as the ruling party begins mobilising support for another presidential contest.
