President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended security forces for the successful rescue of kidnapped pupils and teachers in Oyo State, describing the operation as a major breakthrough after a 56-day ordeal in captivity.
The victims, abducted in May from Oriire Local Government Area, regained freedom following a coordinated multi-agency operation involving the military, intelligence services and local security outfits. The President praised the professionalism and resilience of the operatives involved.
In a statement released from the State House, Tinubu said the safe return of the victims demonstrates the effectiveness of ongoing security reforms and inter-agency collaboration. He noted that the operation was carefully executed to avoid harm to the hostages.
The President also extended sympathy to families affected by the incident and assured them of the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the country. He reiterated that no effort would be spared in tackling kidnapping and terrorism.
Security agencies had intensified operations across forested areas and identified hideouts linked to the abductors. Multiple arrests were made, placing pressure on the group and eventually forcing the unconditional release of the victims.
Tinubu urged security forces to sustain the momentum and continue targeting criminal networks across the country. He also called on citizens to support security agencies with credible information to prevent future incidents.
The Oyo State Government welcomed the development, describing it as a relief for affected families and communities. Officials said arrangements were underway to provide medical care and psychosocial support for the rescued victims.
Analysts say the rescue could boost public confidence in the country’s security architecture, though concerns remain about recurring abductions in parts of Nigeria. The federal government has maintained that sustained operations will gradually reduce such incidents.
