The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, held a private meeting with the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, at the monarch’s Rumfa Palace on Saturday.

The closed-door engagement, which took place on August 22, 2026, comes as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The purpose of the meeting was not immediately disclosed, with both sides keeping details of their discussions private.

A close associate of the Emir, Muhammad Dallatu, confirmed the visit on Sunday, saying Yilwatda met with Sanusi shortly after the monarch returned to Kano from Abuja.

According to Dallatu, the APC chairman paid a courtesy visit to the Emir at the palace before the two men proceeded into a private discussion.

“The APC national chairman paid a courtesy visit to His Highness, the Emir of Kano, at the Rumfa Palace on Saturday,” Dallatu said.

He explained that the Emir had just returned from Abuja when the APC leader arrived for the meeting.

“The Emir had just returned from Abuja when the meeting took place, and the two held a closed-door meeting at the palace,” he added.

Dallatu, however, declined to disclose the issues discussed, stressing that the engagement was private.

“The meeting was a closed-door engagement, so I cannot disclose the details of what was discussed between His Highness and the APC national chairman,” he said.

The meeting has attracted attention because of the political significance of Kano, one of Nigeria’s most populous states and an important battleground in national elections.

It also comes amid continuing political and traditional tensions surrounding the Kano emirship, an issue that has remained a major subject of public debate in the state.

The dispute over the traditional institution has involved competing claims, political disagreements and legal challenges, making interactions between influential political figures and the Emir particularly significant.

Yilwatda’s visit also comes at a time when political parties are beginning to position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with consultations and private engagements expected to increase across the country.

Neither the APC leadership nor the Emir’s palace has publicly disclosed whether the meeting touched on political matters, the emirship controversy or broader issues concerning Kano State.

For now, the encounter remains a private engagement, with details of what transpired between the APC national chairman and the Kano monarch still undisclosed.
