The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally received Prince Adewole Ebenezer Adebayo as the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2027 general election.

The party submitted Adebayo’s name to the electoral body in an official communication signed by its National Secretary, Olu Agunloye, confirming his emergence as the party’s flagbearer.

According to the SDP, Adebayo clinched the ticket at its National Convention held in Bauchi on May 9, 2026. The party described the convention as peaceful and transparent, noting that the process reflected internal democracy and consensus among delegates.

Party officials said the submission to INEC marks a critical step in preparations for the 2027 presidential race, positioning the SDP to begin early mobilisation and nationwide engagement.

While details of the convention voting process were not immediately disclosed, SDP leaders maintained that the exercise was conducted in line with party guidelines and electoral regulations.

Political analysts say the early confirmation of Adebayo’s candidacy could give the SDP a strategic advantage in building alliances and strengthening its visibility ahead of the polls. They note that smaller parties often benefit from early clarity in leadership as larger parties navigate internal contests.

INEC is expected to continue receiving nominations from political parties as the electoral calendar progresses, in line with statutory timelines for the 2027 general election.

The development signals the gradual intensification of political activities across the country as parties begin to position their candidates and structures for the next electoral cycle.
