Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez underwent successful surgery on a fractured jaw on Saturday night after suffering a severe collision during his side’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The injury occurred in the second half when the World Cup-winning shot-stopper raced off his line to clear a dangerous free kick, colliding heavily with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
Medical personnel treated the Argentine international on the pitch for nearly ten minutes, administering oxygen and fitting a neck brace before stretching him off to warm applause from both sets of supporters.
Young goalkeeper, Mike Penders stepped in as a substitute, maintaining the shutout to secure three valuable points for Chelsea.
Following the procedure, Martínez reassured supporters via football insider Fabrizio Romano on Sunday morning, expressing optimism about his recovery timeline.

“The most important things are 3 points and clean sheet. I’ll be back in few weeks!” Martínez stated.
With the operation completed successfully, the goalkeeper’s focus shifts entirely to his rehabilitation as Chelsea medical staff monitor his recovery over the coming weeks.
