President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, removing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, from the Federal Executive Council.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by George Akume, the President directed Edun to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated to serve as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously held the position of Minister of State in the ministry.
In a related development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, while Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.
The directive mandates that all handing-over processes be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Akume said the reshuffle is part of efforts to strengthen cohesion within the cabinet, improve synergy in governance, and enhance the delivery of economic outcomes in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He noted that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes, adding that the move reflects an ongoing commitment to reinvigorate government operations.
President Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours, while assuring remaining cabinet members that efforts to strengthen governance would continue.
