Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on political, religious and community leaders in Plateau State to set aside their differences and work together to transform the state into an economic powerhouse, saying unity remains the key to unlocking its vast potential.

Speaking on Saturday at the wedding reception of Nanbam Mutfwang, daughter of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, and Jeremiah Ayodele in Jos, the Vice President said the marriage itself symbolises Nigeria’s diversity and the need for stronger national cohesion.

Representing President Bola Tinubu at the event, Shettima said the union between the couple, which brings together the North and the South, demonstrates that the values uniting Nigerians are greater than the forces seeking to divide them.

“We need to build bridges; we need to embrace one another. Challenges bring forth the character of leaders,” the Vice President told guests at the reception held at Lang Field along Barkin Ladi Road in Jos.

He observed that although Plateau State continues to grapple with security and economic challenges, the situation could be reversed through purposeful leadership and collective action by stakeholders across political, ethnic and religious divides.

Addressing what he described as the “movers and shakers” of Plateau politics gathered at the ceremony, Shettima urged them to close ranks and focus on building lasting peace and sustainable development.

“We can transform Plateau into an economic powerhouse,” he said, adding that despite present challenges threatening the state’s economy, its abundant human and natural resources provide a strong foundation for prosperity if properly harnessed.

He appealed to residents to live together peacefully and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood that have historically defined the state.

Responding, Governor Caleb Mutfwang expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for sending the Vice President to represent him at the occasion and thanked the Federal Government for its continued support in improving security across Plateau and other parts of the country.

He said the government’s ongoing reforms and security interventions have renewed hope for residents, stressing that all levels of government must continue working together to sustain the gains achieved.

The wedding attracted an array of prominent political leaders and government officials, including Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Minister of Defence General Christopher Musa, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Idris Wase, Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Professor Ayo Omotayo, as well as other senior federal and state government officials.

Earlier on Saturday, the Vice President travelled to Kaduna, where he attended the wedding fatiha of Salihu Bello and Amina Abubakar Abdullahi, daughter of his longtime friend, Abubakar Abdullahi Attajiri, at the Sultan Bello Mosque. He was accompanied by his wife, Hajiya Nana Shettima, Governor Zulum and other dignitaries.
