Residents of Jos North Local Government Area in Plateau State have welcomed the government’s decision to further relax the curfew imposed in the wake of recent security disturbances.
The adjustment, which shortens restricted hours, is being seen as a significant step toward restoring normalcy and easing economic pressure on the community.
The Plateau State Government said the decision followed an improved security assessment by law enforcement agencies and consultations with community leaders.
The curfew, initially introduced to curb unrest and protect lives and property, had severely limited movement and business activities, particularly for small-scale traders and transport operators.
With the revised hours, residents can now carry out extended daily activities, including trading, schooling, and social engagements.
Many business owners expressed relief, noting that the earlier restrictions had led to significant financial losses and disrupted supply chains.
Security agencies, however, have urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities. They emphasized that while the situation has improved, stability must be sustained through collective responsibility.
Community leaders also praised the government’s responsiveness, describing the move as a balance between ensuring security and protecting livelihoods. They called for continued dialogue and proactive intelligence gathering to prevent future crises.
The state government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, assuring residents that any further adjustments would be guided by developments on the ground. For many in Jos North, the easing of the curfew signals cautious optimism and a gradual return to everyday life.
