Super Falcons

The Super Falcons are heading to the United Kingdom this May. The Nigerian Football Federation arranged this short training camp to prepare the women’s national team for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The team will be in the UK from May 23 to May 28, and they are expected to play at least one friendly match during their stay.

This trip comes at a crucial time for the team. The squad did not play any matches during the international window in March despite initial plans.

The federation wants to ensure the players remain active and prepared, even though this UK tour falls outside the official FIFA international calendar.

Because it is not an official window, some regular first team players will miss the camp to fulfil their club duties in Europe and elsewhere.

However, they are expected to rejoin the squad for the next official window scheduled between June 7 and June 14.

Head coach Justine Madugu plans to use this opportunity to test new talents and expand his options before the main tournament.

Getting opponents for warm up games has been a very frustrating process for the coaching crew. Speaking recently, Madugu explained that while other football federations often agree to friendlies, their coaches usually reject the idea.

“The fact is that most teams are not ready to play us. I know a lot of efforts have been made to reach out to different countries,” Madugu noted.

He added that the rival coaches simply refuse the matchups because they do not want to face the Super Falcons.

Nigeria goes into the next WAFCON as the defending champions. They won a record tenth title in Morocco last year.

This upcoming UK camp is a major step in building team chemistry. The coaching crew needs a strong squad to defend their African crown and also secure a ticket for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
