The National Youth Service Corps NYSC has postponed the commencement of orientation camp activities for prospective corps members deployed to Sokoto and Niger states to August 12.

The postponement was attributed to administrative and logistical considerations, with the NYSC assuring affected prospective corps members that arrangements were being made to ensure a smooth and secure orientation exercise.

The development affects young Nigerian graduates preparing to begin the mandatory national service programme designed to promote national integration and expose participants to different parts of the country.

The affected prospective corps members had been preparing for the orientation exercise before the schedule was shifted.

The NYSC urged them to remain calm and follow official instructions regarding the revised date and other arrangements for reporting to camp.

The agency said the adjustment was necessary to ensure that facilities and other logistical requirements were adequately prepared before the commencement of activities.

The orientation camp remains one of the major stages of the NYSC programme, bringing together graduates from different states and backgrounds for a period of orientation, skills development and national integration.

During the exercise, corps members undergo drills, lectures, physical activities and other programmes designed to prepare them for the service year.

The postponement in Sokoto and Niger is therefore expected to provide additional time for relevant authorities to complete necessary preparations and address logistical concerns.

The NYSC has repeatedly stressed the importance of safety and adequate camp arrangements in conducting orientation exercises across the country.

Prospective corps members in the affected states were advised to rely on official NYSC communication channels for further updates and avoid acting on unverified information.

The agency also reminded participants that the revised date should be treated as the new reporting schedule unless further official communication is issued.

The postponement comes amid continued efforts by the NYSC to improve the administration of its orientation programmes and ensure that corps members receive appropriate support throughout the exercise.

The national service scheme remains one of Nigeria’s major youth development and integration programmes, with thousands of graduates participating annually.

By bringing young Nigerians together from different regions, the scheme is intended to promote national unity, understanding and a stronger sense of citizenship.

The NYSC assured prospective corps members that the necessary arrangements would be completed ahead of the August 12 commencement date.

It urged them to remain patient, prepare adequately and comply with all security and administrative guidelines when reporting to camp.
