- Baba Suwe’s Daughter Shares ...

Halimat Omidina, daughter of late Yoruba movie star Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, has shared an emotional account of her father’s final moments as she marked what would have been his 68th birthday.
Halimat, a model and content creator, reflected on the late actor’s absence in a series of posts on her X account on Saturday, August 22, 2026, describing the birthday as painful because the family could no longer celebrate with him.
Baba Suwe died on November 22, 2021, at the age of 63. Had he been alive, the veteran actor would have turned 68 on August 22, 2026.
Remembering the celebrations they once had, Halimat said the occasion felt markedly different without her father, recalling the food, gathering and excitement that traditionally accompanied his birthday.
“Happy posthumous birthday, Daddy. Today feels so different, no crowd, no jollof rice, no you in your new shirt,” she wrote.
The tribute offered a glimpse into the personal loss experienced by the actor’s family nearly five years after his death.

Halimat’s message also appeared to focus on the ordinary details that made her father’s birthdays memorable, rather than simply highlighting his fame as one of Nigeria’s best-known comic actors.
Baba Suwe, whose real name was Babatunde Omidina, became a household name through his distinctive comic performances in Yoruba-language films. His expressive acting style, humour and ability to portray everyday characters earned him a large following across Nigeria.
His career spanned several decades, during which he appeared in numerous Yoruba and English-language productions and worked alongside some of the industry’s biggest stars.
Beyond his performances, the actor was recognised as one of the influential figures who helped popularise Yoruba comedy and strengthen the commercial appeal of indigenous-language films.
His death in 2021 was met with widespread tributes from colleagues, fans and public figures, many of whom remembered him for his contribution to the Nigerian film industry.
For his daughter, however, his legacy remains deeply personal.
Her birthday tribute showed that despite the passage of time, the absence of a parent remains especially painful on significant family occasions.
Rather than focusing on his achievements alone, Halimat remembered the father behind the famous name, recalling the moments of family celebration that can no longer be recreated.
Her post has since resonated with fans who continue to remember Baba Suwe and his distinctive contribution to Nollywood.
As his family marks another posthumous birthday, the veteran actor’s work continues to live on through the films and characters that made him a beloved figure in Nigerian entertainment.
