President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerian youths to take an active role in determining the country’s political future by participating in the electoral process and ensuring they obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The President described the PVC as a critical instrument for political participation and democratic decision-making, stressing that young Nigerians must take responsibility for shaping the direction of the country through their votes.

Tinubu made the appeal while addressing Nigerian youths, emphasising that the outcome of the forthcoming election would have significant implications for their future and the country’s development.

He urged eligible young Nigerians who had yet to collect their voter cards to do so, noting that electoral participation remained an important way for citizens to express their preferences and influence leadership choices.

“Your future depends on this election. This progress has no reverse gear. It is left for you to use the weapon you have, and that weapon is the PVC. If you have not collected yours, please go and collect it,” the President said.

Tinubu maintained that the responsibility of determining the country’s political direction should not be left exclusively to political leaders, insisting that citizens, particularly young people, have an important role to play in the democratic process.

His message places renewed attention on youth participation in Nigeria’s electoral activities, especially as young voters constitute an important segment of the country’s electorate.

The President’s appeal also highlights the importance of voter registration, collection of Permanent Voter Cards and participation in elections as essential components of democratic engagement.

Nigeria’s electoral system requires eligible citizens to register with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and obtain their PVCs to participate in elections.

The commission has continued to encourage eligible Nigerians to take advantage of its voter registration and collection processes to ensure they are prepared to exercise their franchise.

Young Nigerians have increasingly become an important constituency in national political discussions, with issues including employment, education, economic opportunities, security and access to social services featuring prominently in conversations about the country’s future.

Tinubu’s remarks come amid growing political attention towards the youth population and their potential influence on electoral outcomes.

He urged young Nigerians to recognise the importance of their votes and use the available democratic process to make their voices count.

The President’s message underscores the role of electoral participation in strengthening democratic accountability and allowing citizens to determine who governs them.
