The Abia State Government has established a biomedical engineering unit to improve maintenance of medical equipment across public hospitals.

The initiative is aimed at addressing the persistent challenge of faulty or abandoned equipment, which has hindered healthcare delivery in the state.

Officials said the unit would be responsible for installation, repair, and regular servicing of medical devices, ensuring they remain functional and efficient.

Healthcare workers have long complained about the lack of technical support, often forcing patients to seek services in private facilities.

The government noted that the new unit would reduce downtime and enhance the quality of care in public hospitals.
