Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that politicians seeking elective offices in Rivers State must be part of the Rainbow Coalition if they hope to succeed at the polls.
Wike made the assertion during a luncheon held in Port Harcourt for candidates of the political coalition, where he expressed confidence in the group’s growing influence and electoral strength ahead of future elections in the state.
According to the former Rivers State governor, the coalition has emerged as a dominant political platform capable of determining electoral outcomes across the state.

“No one can get any elective position in Rivers State if he is not in the Rainbow Coalition,” Wike said while addressing party supporters and candidates at the event.
The minister used the occasion to commend leading political figures who have aligned with the coalition, describing their support as evidence of the group’s expanding acceptance across political divides.
Wike particularly expressed appreciation to Tonye Cole, the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, for withdrawing from the Rivers APC governorship race and joining forces with the coalition.
He described Cole’s decision as a significant boost to the coalition’s political structure and a demonstration of commitment to a broader political agenda for the state.
The minister said the coalition was built on a shared vision of political stability, development and inclusive leadership, adding that its members were united by the desire to advance the interests of Rivers people.
Political observers view Cole’s alignment with Wike’s camp as a notable development in the evolving political landscape of Rivers State, where alliances and realignments continue to shape preparations for future electoral contests.
Wike also urged candidates of the coalition to remain focused and maintain close engagement with grassroots supporters, stressing that unity among coalition members would be critical to achieving electoral success.
He assured the candidates of the coalition’s backing and expressed confidence that the group would continue to attract influential political actors from across the state.
The luncheon drew party leaders, coalition members and supporters, many of whom described the gathering as a demonstration of the coalition’s growing political influence.
With political activities gradually intensifying ahead of future elections, Wike’s remarks are expected to fuel further debate about the balance of power in Rivers State and the role of emerging alliances in shaping the state’s political future.
The Rainbow Coalition has become one of the most talked-about political platforms in the state, with its leaders expressing confidence that it will remain a decisive force in determining future electoral outcomes.
