Vice President Kashim Shettima has led top party leaders and stakeholders to the Borno State governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where Engr. Mustapha Gubio emerged as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 election.
The exercise, held in Maiduguri, produced Gubio unopposed, with the Vice President later departing the state for Abuja after overseeing the process alongside Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and other senior APC members.
Shettima used the occasion to call for unity among party members, urging stakeholders to bury differences and work collectively towards securing victory for the APC in the next general elections. He stressed that internal cohesion remained critical to achieving the party’s broader political and developmental objectives.

According to him, the affirmation of Gubio as candidate reflects a shared commitment to selecting leaders capable of advancing economic growth, strengthening security, and delivering improved governance in Borno State.
He linked the process to the wider agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the administration is focused on building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria through credible leadership at all levels.
“What we are doing here is part of the broader agenda to ensure a better future for Nigerians. The time has come to walk the talk, and only credible leaders can make this a reality,” Shettima said, urging party members to remain united.
Governor Zulum, in his remarks, commended stakeholders for their participation and support throughout the process, describing the outcome as a reflection of consensus within the party.
The APC governorship candidate, Engr. Gubio, expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to prioritise development, security, and good governance if elected in 2027. He also promised to run an inclusive administration guided by accountability and the fear of God.
The primary was attended by key political figures including the APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, Senator M.T. Monguno, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, members of the National Assembly, Speaker and members of the Borno State House of Assembly, commissioners, and other party leaders.
The Vice President’s convoy later departed Maiduguri for Abuja after the conclusion of the exercise.
