The Lagos State Government says the LRMT Blue Line transported about 3.5 million passengers in 2025, with daily ridership rising to approximately 15,000 commuters.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing marking the third year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term.
According to the Ministry of Transportation, daily train operations on the Blue Line have increased significantly from 57 to 90 trips, reflecting growing public adoption of rail transport in the state.

Osiyemi said ongoing expansion works on Blue Line Phase II are progressing steadily, with continued track laying, station development, and installation of power and support systems. He added that major infrastructure such as the Mazamaza and LASU bridges have been completed, while stations at Festac, LASU, and Volkswagen remain under construction.
The government also highlighted progress on the LRMT Red Line, which currently operates a 37-kilometre corridor from Agbado to Oyingbo. The state has received additional 24-car trains to boost capacity and reduce waiting time for passengers.
Feasibility studies are underway for the Red Line Phase II, which will extend rail services from Oyingbo to the National Theatre, linking directly with the Blue Line.
In addition, plans are advancing for the LRMT Green Line, a proposed 68-kilometre corridor from Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, expected to include 17 stations and move up to 35,000 passengers per hour. The state has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China Harbour Engineering Company for the project, while funding approval for Phase I has been secured.
The government said the rail projects form part of its broader strategy under the THEMES+ agenda to deliver a modern, integrated, and sustainable transport system for Lagos residents.
