The Anambra State Police Command has arrested six suspects in a crackdown on child exploitation, including offences linked to child labour, street hawking, and human trafficking.
The arrests were made during coordinated operations across multiple locations in the state, following intelligence reports and surveillance activities targeting networks involved in the exploitation of minors.
Police authorities said the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation, with investigations ongoing to uncover the full extent of the alleged activities and identify additional accomplices.
According to the command, several children were rescued during the operation and have been placed under protective care. Efforts are underway to reunite them with their families where possible, while social welfare services provide support and rehabilitation.

The Police Public Relations Officer emphasised that the operation forms part of a broader strategy to combat child abuse and protect vulnerable populations in the state.
Authorities also warned individuals and groups engaged in child exploitation to desist, stressing that the law will be enforced without compromise.
Child rights advocates have commended the police action, describing it as a crucial step in addressing a persistent social problem. They called for sustained enforcement, stronger legal frameworks, and increased public awareness to prevent future cases.
Experts note that economic hardship, lack of education, and weak enforcement mechanisms often contribute to the prevalence of child labour and trafficking.
The Anambra State Government has reiterated its commitment to protecting children’s rights, pledging to work closely with law enforcement agencies, civil society groups, and community leaders.
Officials say further operations are expected as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle networks involved in child exploitation across the state.
The police have urged members of the public to report suspicious activities, assuring that informants’ identities will be protected.
