Troops Repel Bandit Attack in Zamfara, Recover Rustled Livestock

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully foiled an attempted bandit attack on Gegeta Village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing three suspected bandits and recovering livestock stolen during the raid.

The operation followed a swift military response to an attack launched by armed bandits on the community on June 1. Security sources said the assailants invaded Gegeta Village through the Magami District axis at about 9:30 a.m., rustling animals belonging to residents before attempting to flee the area.

According to information shared by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, troops deployed under Operation FANSAN YAMMA responded promptly after receiving intelligence on the attack, leading to a confrontation with the fleeing bandits.

The ensuing gun battle reportedly resulted in the neutralisation of three suspected members of the criminal group, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds into nearby forests.

Military sources disclosed that the troops succeeded in recovering a number of livestock stolen from villagers during the raid. The recovered animals were later returned to their owners, bringing relief to affected residents whose livelihoods depend heavily on farming and livestock rearing.

The latest operation is being viewed as another significant success in ongoing efforts by security forces to combat banditry and cattle rustling in Zamfara and other parts of Nigeria’s North-West region.

Residents of Gegeta Village reportedly fled for safety when the attackers stormed the community. However, the rapid intervention by troops prevented what could have become a more devastating attack.

Local sources said the bandits had attempted to move the stolen livestock through routes frequently used by criminal groups operating within the Magami and Kaura Namoda areas before encountering military resistance.

Banditry remains one of the major security challenges facing Zamfara State, with several rural communities frequently targeted by armed groups involved in kidnapping, cattle rustling and attacks on villages.

Security experts have repeatedly emphasized the importance of rapid response operations and intelligence gathering in weakening criminal networks operating across the region.

Military authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the latest operation, but security sources indicated that troops have intensified patrols and clearance operations in surrounding communities to prevent retaliatory attacks and track down fleeing suspects.

Residents have commended the troops for their intervention, describing the recovery of the stolen livestock as a major relief amid persistent security concerns.

The successful operation underscores ongoing military efforts to restore peace and stability in Zamfara State and other areas affected by banditry. Security forces have assured residents that operations against criminal elements will continue until lasting security is achieved across the region.
