President Bola Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies to intensify operations aimed at rescuing victims of the latest mass abduction in Niger State.

The President ordered the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and other relevant agencies to work together in a coordinated operation to locate the victims and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.

The directive followed the abduction and killing of residents in the state, an incident that has renewed concerns over the security situation in parts of Niger State.

Tinubu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, condemned the attack and described the perpetrators as enemies of peace and humanity.

The President assured families of those abducted that the Federal Government would deploy all necessary resources to secure their release.

He also directed the Service Chiefs to provide regular updates on the rescue operation until all the victims are accounted for.

Tinubu expressed condolences to the families of those killed and assured affected communities that the government would support recovery, relief and additional security measures.

The President said the latest attack would not weaken the government’s determination to protect Nigerians, insisting that terrorism would not intimidate the country.

The development comes as security agencies continue to face pressure to contain kidnapping, terrorism and banditry across several parts of the country.

Niger State has remained particularly vulnerable because of its vast forests and proximity to areas affected by armed criminal activity. Communities in several parts of the state have previously suffered attacks, abductions and displacement.

The President’s latest order places greater responsibility on the security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering and coordination while ensuring that operations are conducted with the safety of the abducted victims as a priority.

Families of the victims are expected to receive updates as the security agencies intensify efforts to trace the abductors and establish the location where the victims are being held.

The government has also reiterated its determination to ensure that those behind the attack are identified and prosecuted.

For residents of affected communities, the immediate priority remains the safe return of their relatives, while the security response is expected to continue until the victims are accounted for.
