The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance training, research, and innovation in Nigeria’s transport sector.

The agreement was signed by FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, and NITT Director General, Dr. Bayero Farah. Both leaders described the partnership as a major step toward improving professional standards, building institutional capacity, and positioning Nigeria’s transport system globally.

Speaking at the ceremony, Corps Marshal Mohammed said the MoU represents government’s commitment to a safer, smarter, and more efficient transport network. He noted that the deal will expand work in:

– Specialised training and driver education
– Research, technology, and ICT-driven learning
– Knowledge exchange and human capital development
– Modernisation of driver training centres

He added that while FRSC and NITT have worked together before, formalising the relationship will “open a new chapter of innovation and institutional excellence.” The MoU, he stressed, is an actionable framework for immediate reforms, not just a ceremonial document.

Dr. Farah commended FRSC’s leadership during negotiations and said the core goal is to align Nigeria’s transport education and training with global best practices.

“Our aim is to produce world-class professionals who can drive sustainable national development and tackle emerging mobility and road safety challenges,” he said.

The signing was witnessed by key stakeholders, including AAI Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ahmed Abdelhafaz, and AAI Chairman, Mr. Ejike Njeze.
