Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to embrace unity, compassion, and peaceful coexistence as Muslims across the country celebrate Eid el-Kabir.
In her 2026 Eid message, the First Lady extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful in Nigeria and the diaspora, describing the festival as a period for deep reflection on the values of sacrifice, obedience, faith, and compassion. She noted that Eid el-Kabir serves as a reminder of the importance of selflessness and total devotion to the will of God.
Mrs Tinubu urged Nigerians to use the occasion to strengthen bonds of unity and mutual respect, stressing that the nation’s strength lies in its diversity and collective commitment to peaceful living. According to her, fostering harmony among citizens is essential for national development and stability.
She emphasized the need for acts of kindness, particularly towards vulnerable and less privileged members of society. The First Lady encouraged citizens to extend support to their neighbours, noting that such gestures can restore hope and bring comfort during challenging times.

“As we celebrate, let us remember the essence of this season by showing love and generosity to those in need,” she said, adding that compassion remains a key pillar of nation-building.
The First Lady also called for continued prayers for Nigeria, urging citizens to seek divine guidance for sustained peace, stability, and prosperity. She expressed optimism that with unity and shared purpose, the country would overcome its challenges and achieve greater progress.
Her message comes amid nationwide Eid celebrations marked by prayers, charity, and communal gatherings, as Muslims commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.
Religious leaders have echoed similar sentiments, encouraging Nigerians to uphold the values of sacrifice and compassion beyond the festive period. They stressed that these principles are vital for fostering peace and strengthening social cohesion.
Mrs Tinubu concluded by wishing Muslims a joyful and blessed Eid, expressing hope that the spirit of the season would inspire lasting unity and goodwill across the nation.
Eid Mubarak.
