President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new Nigeria Police Academy campus in Ogun State, releasing N15 billion to commence the project as part of efforts to expand training capacity.

According to a statement from the presidency, the new campus is designed to complement existing facilities and address the growing need for well-trained personnel within the Nigeria Police Force. The funding will cover initial construction, infrastructure development and procurement of essential training equipment.

Officials said the Ogun campus will help reduce pressure on the existing academy in Kano State while providing opportunities for more recruits to undergo structured and modern police training. The move is also expected to enhance regional access to training facilities in the southern part of the country.

The initiative forms part of broader security sector investments by the Tinubu administration, which has emphasized capacity building as key to tackling insecurity. Authorities believe that expanding training infrastructure will improve recruitment quality and operational readiness.

Local stakeholders in Ogun State have welcomed the development, describing it as a boost to the state’s economy through job creation and infrastructure growth. Construction activities are expected to generate employment and stimulate local businesses.

Security experts say the investment is timely, given Nigeria’s increasing security demands. They stress that sustained funding and proper implementation will be critical to achieving the intended outcomes.

The project is expected to begin in phases, with government agencies tasked with ensuring transparency and timely delivery.
