The Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) has recorded a 33 per cent increase in passenger traffic under the administration of the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, with daily ridership rising to an average of 2,000 passengers in 2025.
According to the agency, the growth reflects improved confidence in water transport, driven by enhanced safety measures, expanded routes, and upgrades to ferry infrastructure across Lagos waterways.
LAGFERRY said it has retrofitted seven boats to modern safety and comfort standards, including MF Apapa, MF Elegushi, MF Akran, MF Ayangburen, MF Majidun, MF Alausa, and MF Ejirin, to improve service reliability and passenger experience.
The agency also noted that it has expanded logistics operations on the waterways, supporting barge transportation services for major industrial users such as Dangote Industries, BUA Industries, and Crown Flour Mills, helping to ease pressure on Lagos roads by moving goods through inland waterways.

In addition, new ferry routes have been introduced to improve connectivity across the state. These include the Ijede–Lagos Island route launched on October 11, 2025, as well as the Ibeshe–Lekki, Victoria Island, and Falomo routes introduced in March 2025.
LAGFERRY said the expansion of services is part of efforts to promote water transport as a safer, faster, and more efficient alternative to road travel, while also reducing congestion and improving mobility within Lagos State.
