“I Won’t Back Down” — Tinubu Defies Critics, Doubles Down on Reforms

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared his readiness to confront Nigeria’s economic and political challenges head-on, insisting he will not be intimidated by critics as he pushes forward his reform agenda.

Speaking to political stakeholders, the President said he remains inspired and committed to what he described as a historic opportunity to “break the shackles of poverty and ignorance” while strengthening democratic institutions in the country.

He stressed that his administration’s Renewed Hope agenda is focused on restoring confidence, driving prosperity and building a united Nigeria.

Tinubu dismissed opposition criticism and political agitation, warning against what he called “noise making and rascality,” while reaffirming his administration’s respect for the rule of law. He emphasised that adherence to judicial decisions remains non-negotiable, regardless of whether outcomes favour the government.

“We cannot submit to disobedience of lawful court orders. We must embrace the judiciary and uphold the principles of separation of powers if democracy must survive,” he said.

The President urged Nigerians to rally around a shared national vision, noting that unity remains the only path to sustainable progress. According to him, building one nation with a common purpose is critical to unlocking the country’s full potential.

Reaffirming his personal resolve, Tinubu said he is no stranger to political struggles, recalling the tough journey through party primaries and the general election that brought him to office. He assured supporters that he would not abandon the mandate entrusted to him.

“They want to scare me off? That is not possible. I have been through this path before, and I will do it again if necessary. There is no better place than our country, and no one else will build it for us,” he stated.

The President also addressed concerns about the economy, acknowledging existing difficulties but maintaining that reforms are necessary for long-term stability. He noted that governance is a continuum, describing his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, as a partner in Nigeria’s development journey.

“If something is wrong, we correct it and move forward,” Tinubu said, adding that the path to transformation is never easy but requires courage and persistence.

He urged political allies and supporters to deepen engagement with citizens, communicate government policies effectively and sustain hope at the grassroots level. Tinubu maintained that visible infrastructure, economic growth and improved opportunities would ultimately validate his administration’s direction.

Ending on a note of reassurance, the President pledged unwavering commitment to the Nigerian people, promising not to abandon the reform process or retreat in the face of challenges.
