The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has intensified its ongoing investigations, reportedly focusing on former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai while detaining a medical practitioner linked to the case.
Sources familiar with the probe indicate that the commission is examining financial transactions and contractual dealings connected to the former governor’s administration. While El-Rufai has not been formally charged, officials say he is a person of interest in the expanding investigation.
The detained doctor is believed to have played a role in facilitating certain transactions under scrutiny. Investigators are said to be analysing documents, bank records, and communication trails to establish the extent of involvement by all parties.
The ICPC has maintained that the investigation is part of its mandate to promote transparency and accountability in public office. It assured the public that due process would be followed and that findings would be made available upon completion.
El-Rufai has yet to issue an official statement regarding the development. However, associates have described the probe as politically motivated, a claim authorities have not responded to.
Observers note that the case could have significant political implications, given El-Rufai’s prominence in national politics. Anti-corruption advocates, meanwhile, have called for a thorough and impartial investigation.
The commission has urged Nigerians to refrain from speculation, emphasising that only verified information should be relied upon as the probe continues.
