President Bola Tinubu and members of his delegation have offered prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity and stability during their visit to Makkah, Saudi Arabia, seeking divine intervention over the country’s security and political challenges.
The President, alongside governors and other members of the delegation, participated in religious activities during the pilgrimage, using the opportunity to seek blessings for the country and its citizens.
The prayers focused on national harmony, an end to insecurity, economic progress and the preservation of Nigeria’s unity.
Tinubu also expressed hope for a peaceful and stable country, particularly as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The President’s participation in the prayers comes at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with several security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and communal violence in different parts of the country.
The situation has placed considerable pressure on security agencies and governments at different levels, with affected communities calling for stronger measures to protect lives and property.
The prayers in Makkah also highlighted the importance of national unity amid political, ethnic and religious differences.
Governors and other delegates accompanying the President reportedly joined in seeking divine intervention for the country, expressing hope that Nigeria would experience greater peace and stability.
Their participation reflects the significance many public officials attach to religious observances and collective prayers in addressing national challenges.
Nigeria is home to people of different religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, making national cohesion an important issue in the country’s political and social development.
The 2027 elections are also expected to test the country’s democratic institutions, particularly regarding political participation, electoral credibility and peaceful competition among political parties.
Political stakeholders have repeatedly been urged to avoid inflammatory statements and actions capable of creating tension during the electoral process.
The prayers for a peaceful electoral process therefore come against the backdrop of preparations by political parties and potential candidates seeking to mobilise supporters ahead of the next national vote.
Beyond the political considerations, the delegation’s prayers also focused on the country’s economic fortunes.
Millions of Nigerians continue to face financial pressures arising from inflation, unemployment and the high cost of basic necessities.
Businesses have equally been confronted with rising operational expenses, while households continue to seek relief from economic difficulties.
Tinubu’s administration has defended its economic reforms, maintaining that the measures are necessary to strengthen public finances and create a more sustainable economic environment.
However, the government faces growing expectations to translate its policies into improved living conditions.
The prayers in Makkah represent a spiritual appeal for divine intervention in Nigeria’s affairs, with the President and members of his delegation expressing hope for a country characterised by peace, security, prosperity and democratic stability.
