Nigerian singer Peter Okoye of the defunct music duo P-Square has revealed that he now celebrates his birthday on November 30 instead of November 18, saying he made the change after years of discomfort associated with his original birth date.

Peter, popularly known as Mr P, disclosed this while speaking on the Capital XTRA Podcast, where he discussed his personal life, career and the prolonged rift with his twin brother and former music partner, Paul Okoye.

According to the singer, November 18 had become a difficult day for him over the years because of the tension, gossip and controversies surrounding his relationship with his twin brother.

Peter said the date had stopped feeling like a day of celebration, prompting him to choose November 30 as the date on which he now marks his birthday.

He described the change as a personal decision after what he said had been about 13 years of emotional discomfort surrounding the original date.

The singer linked the situation to the long-running disagreement between him and Paul, which has affected both their personal relationship and their musical partnership.

Peter and Paul, who achieved widespread success as P-Square, have had a turbulent relationship over the years, with disagreements repeatedly leading to the separation of the duo.

The brothers reunited professionally in 2021 after an earlier split, raising expectations that P-Square had put its differences behind them.

However, the reunion was followed by another public fallout, leaving the duo once again pursuing separate musical careers.

Peter’s latest comments suggest that the strain surrounding the relationship extended beyond music and into significant personal occasions, including his birthday.

Rather than continuing to associate November 18 with what he described as years of tension and gossip, the singer said he chose a new date that gives him greater peace of mind.

The decision also highlights the personal impact that prolonged family disputes can have on public figures whose private conflicts frequently become subjects of public discussion.

For Peter, changing the date appears to represent an attempt to reclaim the occasion as a personal celebration rather than one associated with controversy.

P-Square remains one of Nigeria’s most successful musical acts, with Peter and Paul building a career that produced numerous hit songs and international performances before their repeated fallouts.

Their relationship has remained a subject of interest among fans, particularly because of the brothers’ history of reconciliation and subsequent disagreements.

Peter’s revelation about his birthday adds another personal dimension to the long-running saga, showing how the consequences of the feud have extended into aspects of his life beyond the stage.

For now, November 30 has become the date Peter chooses to celebrate, replacing November 18 after years he described as uncomfortable.
