Kwankwaso

Former Kano State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has described Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the Osun governorship election as a demonstration of the power of citizens’ commitment to democracy.

Kwankwaso said the outcome showed that the will of the people could prevail when citizens actively participate in the democratic process and exercise their civic rights.

TheTrafficng gathered that the former governor stated this in a post on his official Facebook page while reacting to Adeleke’s victory in the election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

He congratulated Adeleke, whom he described as his friend, on his victory and commended the people of Osun State for participating in the electoral process.

Kwankwaso, who identified himself as a leader of the opposition and committed democrat, said the election had reaffirmed the importance of the people’s mandate in determining political leadership.

“I congratulate my friend, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State and candidate of the Accord Party, on his victory in the 15 August 2026 Osun State Governorship Election,” he said.

He said the election demonstrated that citizens could influence political outcomes when they remained committed to their civic responsibilities and made their voices heard through the ballot.

According to him, the people’s voice could only effectively count when citizens exercised their democratic rights during elections.

“This victory is a reminder that when citizens remain committed to their civic responsibilities and make their voices heard, the people’s will must prevail,” Kwankwaso said.

He urged Nigerians and political stakeholders to continue supporting democratic values and work towards strengthening the country’s electoral process.

Kwankwaso also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its conduct of the Osun election.

He called on INEC, political parties, candidates, security agencies and other stakeholders to maintain their commitment to credible, peaceful and transparent elections.

“I also commend the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the election and encourage all stakeholders to continue to uphold the principles of credible, peaceful and transparent elections,” he added.

The former governor’s reaction comes amid wider political discussions over the outcome of the Osun governorship election and its implications for Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of the 2027 general election.

His comments also underline the growing focus among opposition figures on voter participation, electoral credibility and the importance of citizens exercising their constitutional rights.
