Honourable James Abiodun Faleke, the lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has been appointed a member of the influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest political decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday during a meeting of GAC members where the council reportedly endorsed Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, as the party’s consensus governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.
Faleke’s elevation is seen by party insiders as a strategic move to strengthen APC’s internal structure and broaden consultations ahead of the next electoral cycle. The federal lawmaker is widely regarded as one of the party’s key figures in Lagos politics and currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Finance.
The development comes barely a day after Faleke purchased nomination forms for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr Hamzat and Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule, who represents Lagos West Senatorial District. He was accompanied during the exercise by former Chairman of Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Honourable Rasaq Olusola Ajala.
Political associates and party loyalists have since congratulated Faleke on the appointment, describing it as recognition of his loyalty, leadership and contributions to the party’s growth.
Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area, Honourable Jimoh Olawale Saliu, said the appointment was well deserved, citing Faleke’s efforts in promoting unity and peace within the APC.
According to Saliu, Faleke has consistently worked to ensure cohesion in the party and remains committed to the ideals of progressive politics as well as the success of President Tinubu and other APC candidates in future elections.
Former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Honourable Abdul Wahab Olumuyiwa Jimoh, also praised the appointment, describing it as a mark of confidence reposed in Faleke by the party leadership.

Jimoh, who served as Deputy Majority Leader in the Assembly, expressed confidence in Faleke’s ability to contribute meaningfully to decisions that would shape the future of Lagos State.
The inclusion of Faleke in the GAC is expected to further consolidate APC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections while reinforcing his standing as a major force in Lagos politics.
