His appointment was approved by the Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar A. Namadi, following the recommendation of the Gumel Emirate Council kingmakers and the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs.

The Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, announced the appointment while briefing journalists after the completion of the selection process.

The appointment brings Dr Lawan Mohammed into a prominent traditional leadership position in Jigawa State, following the death of his father, the late Emir of Gumel.

As the first son of the former emir, his emergence places him at the head of the historic Gumel Emirate and its traditional institution.

The Secretary to the State Government said the recommendation made by the kingmakers was subsequently forwarded through the appropriate channels before receiving the governor’s approval.

The selection process involved consultations aimed at identifying the most suitable candidate among the nine contenders for the vacant throne.

Governor Namadi’s approval formally clears the way for Dr Lawan Mohammed to assume the responsibilities associated with the emirship.

The new emir is expected to provide traditional leadership to communities within the Gumel Emirate while working alongside government authorities and other stakeholders on issues affecting the people.

His emergence is also expected to bring an end to the succession process following the vacancy created by the death of his father.

The Gumel Emirate is one of the traditional institutions in Jigawa State with a long history and significant cultural importance in the region.

The appointment of Dr Lawan Mohammed is therefore expected to attract considerable attention from residents, traditional leaders and other stakeholders across the state.

The state government is expected to announce further details concerning the formal installation and presentation of the staff of office to the new 17th Emir of Gumel.

The development marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Gumel Emirate under Dr Lawan Ahmed Mohammed, who now succeeds his late father as the traditional ruler.
